Tips in riding in Boots?

Any tips in riding in boots?? Ive been riding in them a couple of times and they feel kinda awkward. It feels as if my $10 is getting spent thinking about them if you know what I mean. I know I have to break em in but its wierd coz I can't feel the back break anymore so I rarely use it nemore and I feel I'm getting snaged on the rear break lever everytime I put my foot down.

And by the way when you shift with boots on do lift your whole boot or just move your toes up?

Sorry for Stupid thead but I just wana know how you season riders feel with it and do you get use to it.

Thanks guys/girls

It took me a few days of riding to get used to them. Including one three hour ride. I have size 13 feet so its kind of just a quick rotate of my ankle to shift.
The only problem I have had with my boots are they are scratching my rearset.

Spidi Vr6 boots

How is your foot placement when you ride? Does the back of your foot rest on the pegs or do you put the ball of your foot on the pegs?

when I first started wearing boots, it was extremely weird because I wouldn't feel the shifter or brakes. Give it a couple days or weeks even. Now, I can't even ride without them. I am usually on my tip toes anyway when riding..

you'll get used to it, and riding in regular shoes will seem uncomfortable.

This is very important: use the linkage regulation to find the more comfortable height of the shifting lever.

1) No leg lifting, just pivot your ankle over the peg (up-down-sideways) while the toes relocate between top and bottom of the shifter.

2) When no shifting, support the ball of the foot on the peg.

3) From that position, relocate to #1 for shifting.

As said previously, make sure you adjust the shifter and brake pedal to accomodate the thickness of the boots. Initially I was going to go with Italian style motorcylcle shoes because I thought I really wanted more tactile feedback, but I made the sacrifice because I knew boots would be more protective. Got the SMX-5 like you and the security I felt made all the difference in the world immediately. Do your best to get used to them, there is a reason why pro racers wear them. Another added benefit is that you will be able to ride on your toes more comfortably because the limited range of motion in your ankles will take pressure off your ankles and distribute it up your lower leg.

Soon you will feel naked in anything but your SMX-5s! Keep at it.

I ride in my Gaerne dirt boots on the street for now until I've got money saved up for street boots (going to go the A* S-MX 5 route). My Gaerne dirt boots high quality, leather, and offer a LOT more protection than my work boots. For what I can currently afford I figure it's my safest bet, even if it looks a bit silly. I've got no trouble riding in them though, it's comfortable and natural to me as I've been riding in the dirt for many, many years. Riding in shoes is terrible. I'm not going to say I haven't done it, but I usually never have gone more than a mile down the road to the store in shoes, and I've never left town in shoes. The agility is nice, but I'm terrified by the feeling of lack of protection. That and the shift lever gets caught in the laces. Annoying.

Just keep at it, you'll get used to it. Whenever I get a new pair of boots I break them in by walking around in them as much as I can before I get a chance to use them. New boots are really stiff and can create a unfamiliar feeling even if you've worn boots in the past.

No, I meant you should try wearing dirt boots. They're extremely stiff. You'll get used to your boots.

I had to retrain my mind to push down my heel instead of lift up my ankle.

The rear brake issue will just take time to adjust to.
